My name is Doni and I've been a registered nurse for over 30 years. I spent my growing up years saying I would never be a nurse, largely because my mom was, and I hated her white uniform.
However, as life would have it, many of my friends were nurses and their tales of nursing in the ICU piqued my curiosity to the point that I went back to school at St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing. I spent the next 27 years in the ICU at MeritCare/Sanford, taking care of open heart, trauma, surgical and transplant patients. I worked with brilliant nurses and doctors who taught me untold amounts about pathophysiology, patient care and life.
My next nursing experience was in the world of addiction. I spent 4 years at First Step Recovery, an outpatient drug and treatment agency. The addiction field is challenging, frustrating, heart breaking, and joy filled, and those are lessons that I carried to Stellar.
I came to Stellar this year because my very first nursing goal 30 years ago was to treat the whole person. At Stellar we not only treat the whole person, but we treat the whole lifespan as well. We recently saw a 101-year-old on the same day that we welcomed a 2-day old to Stellar. Family medicine is a challenging and satisfying field and a wonderful way to finish my nursing career.
